Sonnet - Blood Rose

The Blood Rose is a pact, posthumous kept:
    An oath, perhaps, though closer to a curse
        Twixt lovers who presume their love trancend
All odds and struggles, sorrow's tears bewept --
    A promise not to line the Boatman's purse;
        To stay behind and on their love depend,
        To love and be loved, passion without end.

The drawback to such deals in darkness made
    (If I be true of word and wise of age),
Is once such debts are called to be repaid,
    Most regret the fine print on the page:

"Should thy word be broke or insincere,
Abandon all hope, ye who enter here."
